About TOKOWAKA

Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s depiction of the ceremonial transfer at Ise Shrine, reflecting the continuity and renewal that inform TOKOWAKA

Carrying good work forward through renewal.

Every twenty years, Ise Shrine observes Shikinen Sengu, rebuilding its sanctuaries and remaking its sacred objects to pass on the skills involved. That idea of continuity through renewal is the source of the name TOKOWAKA.

TOKOWAKA selects and introduces Japanese design and craft. We look at where a work comes from and how it responds to life today. Established techniques can find new uses; new ideas need the right materials and methods to become objects for everyday life.

Introducing work worth knowing to Taiwan.

TOKOWAKA began with an interest in Japanese design and craft. We pay attention to how an idea becomes an object, and to the choices designers and makers make about materials, uses, and details.

We want to give this work a clear, careful introduction in Taiwan, so people can understand more before deciding whether an object belongs in their lives.

How We Select the Work

Is the idea clear? Do form and function support each other? Why this material, and is the method of making appropriate? Once the object is in your hands, how do you use it?

These questions guide our understanding, alongside attention to proportion, detail, and context. We want the thinking behind the design, the choices made in production, and the everyday uses to be visible.

Connecting the Work with Taiwan

We hope to help Japanese brands, designers, and makers find the right partners and readers in Taiwan. From introducing the work and exchanging ideas to discussing market direction, we aim to let collaboration and trust take shape step by step through clear communication.

We welcome conversations about brand introductions, bringing products to Taiwan, and content collaboration. Together, we can explore an approach that makes sense for Taiwan.
